Double Sagittarius: Religion, Global Expansion and A Philosophy Degree
Pope Francis was a Sagittarius, with the Sun conjunct Jupiter (Sagittarius’ ruling planet) giving him a double Sagittarian signature. Sagittarius is the sign of growth and expansion which was reflected in the Pope’s efforts to extend the Church’s presence into new countries during his papacy. The sign also rules philosophy, a field in which he held a formal degree. Associated with strong belief systems and spirituality, Sagittarius governs religion itself in astrology.
North Node in Sagittarius: A Destined Spiritual Path
His North Node, also in Sagittarius, formed a tight conjunction with his Sun. The North Node represents the soul’s purpose; what we’re here to develop in order to fulfil our destiny. For him, this pointed to Sagittarian themes: faith, spiritual beliefs, and a global vision. His path was shaped by his conviction to share his devout religious beliefs with the world.
Aquarian Moon: The People’s Pope
The Pope’s Moon was in Aquarius, the sign of the revolutionary. Aquarius is progressive, future-focused, and socially conscious. It also rules environmental and humanitarian causes; areas where he was especially outspoken. He advocated for climate action and called for greater care of the planet in his encyclical Laudato Si’. As the first Latin American Pope, he embodied Aquarius’ link to trailblazers and those who break the mould.
Taurus Midheaven: Tradition and Legacy
His Midheaven (the point of career, public image, and legacy) was in Taurus. Taurus is cautious and tradition-bound, with a strong link to preserving the status quo. This may have created internal conflict with his progressive Aquarian Moon. The Midheaven reflects our vocation, and in his case, that meant upholding the institutional legacy of the Church, even as his Moon pulled him toward reform.
Cancer Rising: Community Care and World Grandparents Day
He had Cancer rising, a sign known for emotional intelligence and family. His creation of the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly speaks directly to this, honouring intergenerational connections and advocating for the care and dignity of the vulnerable.
Pluto in the First House = POWER!
Pluto, the planet of power and control, is in his first house of identity and public perception. This placement indicates authority, a commanding presence and the ability to influence others on a deep, often unconscious level.
Saturn Opposite Neptune: A Life of Faith
Another major aspect in the Pope’s chart was Saturn opposite Neptune. This is a spiritual and often karmic pairing. It shows up in the charts of people who live with deep faith, serve in religious roles, or walk a spiritual path. It can also bestow psychic gifts. This combination can also indicate the balance between the material and the mystical, bringing structure to belief, or grounding the intangible.
The Planets at the Time of His Passing
On the day of his passing, Saturn formed a rare conjunction with the North Node in Pisces. This activated the Saturn–Neptune opposition in his birth chart, marking karmic completion and a fulfilment of his destiny.
Pluto was also approaching his natal Moon, something that occurs only once every 248 years. Pluto governs death and transformation, and this transit reflects his soul’s transition into the afterlife.
Mars was also aligned with Pluto in his chart. This alignment indicates internal power struggles within the Vatican, marked by control tactics, political coercion, and ruthless competition among some seeking to assert authority following his death.
What The Pope’s Passing Means for Collective Faith
The Saturn-Neptune pattern in the Pope’s birth chart, activated by the Saturn-North Node on April 21/22, offers a clue on what comes next for the collective.
Saturn and Neptune are currently moving toward a rare conjunction in Aries, exact in February 2026, but we are already feeling its influence.
The last time Saturn and Neptune conjoined was in 1989, the year the Berlin Wall fell. That event triggered the collapse of the communist ideological system and led to a resurgence of religious freedom across Eastern Europe. After decades of suppression, people were once again free to worship and practise their faith.
We are now entering the next phase of this cycle. Under Saturn and Neptune’s influence, we can expect an evolution in collective faith, impacting religion, ideology, and spirituality. Systems that once controlled will dissolve, making way for new beliefs shaped by personal conviction and freedom of thought.
